2026–2027 Korean Credit Program Registration Underway; Three "Smart Guide to Ontario High School" Seminars to Be Held

The Korean Education Centre in Canada (Director: Jee-Eun Lee) announced that registration for the 2026–2027 Ontario Secondary School Korean Credit Program is opening on a rolling basis according to each school board's schedule, and encouraged high school students and parents to check the registration information and participate.

The Korean language course is an official Ontario secondary school credit (Secondary Credit) course that allows students to earn credits required for high school graduation while learning the Korean language and culture. In particular, it provides Korean-speaking students with an opportunity to have their language proficiency recognized through an accredited high school credit course.

The Grade 12 Korean course (LKKDU) is offered at the University Level (U), making it eligible for use in university applications. For students who have continued studying Korean, it can serve as a valuable elective for university admission. However, admission requirements and course prerequisites vary by university and program, so students are encouraged to confirm the specific requirements of the institutions they plan to apply to.

The 2026–2027 Korean Credit Program will be offered through several school boards across Ontario. Even if the course is not available in a student's home school board, students may be able to enroll through another participating school board after consulting with their school's Guidance Counsellor. Registration schedules for participating school boards can be found in the Korean Credit Program poster below.

To further support students enrolled in the program, the Korean Education Centre in Canada plans to offer a variety of enrichment opportunities, including Korean cultural experience programs, TOPIK test fee support for outstanding students, and the 2027 Korea Day Korean Speech Contest.

In addition, the Korean Education Centre in Canada, in partnership with the Korean Canadian Educators' Network (KCEN), will host the "Smart Guide to Ontario High School: Insights from Current Principals and Teachers" seminar to help parents better understand Ontario's high school credit system and university admission process.

The seminar will be held three times between August 25 and September 6 at the Korean Canadian Women's Association (KCWA), Keun Bit Church, and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Current Ontario high school principals and teachers will share practical information and firsthand insights on the Ontario credit system, course selection, university admission preparation, and how students can make the most of the Korean Credit Program.

Director Jee-Eun Lee of the Korean Education Centre in Canada stated, "The Korean Credit Program provides students with an excellent opportunity to turn their language skills and cultural background into recognized academic credits while also supporting their university preparation. We encourage students to check their school board's registration schedule and take advantage of this opportunity."

Christine Kim, President of the Korean Canadian Educators' Network (KCEN), said, "In Canada's multicultural society, learning Korean is more than simply acquiring another language—it is a meaningful way for students to better understand their identity and develop skills for the future. We hope this seminar will provide students and parents with accurate and practical information about Ontario's education system and the Korean Credit Program."
