□ 주토론토총영사관 캐나다한국교육원(원장 이병승)과 온타리오주한국학교협 회는 본국에서 방문한 통일부 산하 통일교육원 관계자들과 9월 1일 총영 사관에서 통일교육 세미나를 개최하였다. □ 이번 세미나는 통일교육원에서 캐나다 한국학교 청소년들을 위한 통일교육 자료를 개발하는 과정에서 한국학교 선생님들의 의견을 취합하고, 통일 교육 교수법에 대한 토론을 목적으로 개최되었다. □ 강정식 총영사는 이곳 청소년들이 통일에 대한 관심도가 낮을 수 있으므로 청소년들의 흥미를 이끌 수 있는 교재 개발이 필요하다고 지적하였으며, 이에 대해 이정택 통일교육원 과장은 학교 현장의 목소리를 듣고 해외 거주 청소년들에게 적합한 교재 개발에 힘쓰겠다고 하였다. □ 한국학교협회 임원진 및 교사 12명과 함께한 세미나 과정에서는 통일에 대한 필요성 및 북한에 대한 올바른 이해를 위한 동영상을 시청하였으며, 학생들의 수준과 흥미에 적합한 교재 개발 방법 등이 논의 되었다. □ 한글학교 교사들은 통일 교육의 필요성에는 공감하고 있었으나, 어떻게 가르쳐야 하나 고민하던 차에 좋은 재료와 방법들을 공유할 수 있는 자 리여서 유익하였다고 말했다.
