□ The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Toronto (Korean Education Centre in Canada) will virtually host '2021 Toronto Korean Speech Contest' on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 12:00 pm-4:30 pm in partnership with the Centre for the Study of Korea of the University of Toronto. □ This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Toronto Korean Speech Contest, which is annually held for non-Korean students learning Korean. The contest is divided into high school & novice for 15 years or older), beginner, intermediate and advanced level (for 18 years or older) categories and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of each category and the grand prize winner will be awarded certificates and prize money. ※ Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Korean program scholarships and airline tickets will not be awarded. □ Those who would like to participate in this virtual contest must upload their speech video to their personal YouTube channel by referring to the attached guideline and then register at the Canadian Association of Teachers of Korean’s webpage www.catk.ca by Friday, March 12, 2021. o Participants must submit their speech script along with their YouTube link. Responding to current circumstances beyond our control the International Languages-Elementary/African Heritage program has gone virtual since March 2020. Thank you for your previous support for the summer program (July 2020) and we were pleased to see that it worked very well in most cases. Both students and parents were very fond of it. This Fall, the International Languages – Elementary / African Heritage Program will be offering on-line language classes to students—kindergarten to grade 8 (TDSB and non-TDSB). Students will again take part in a remote/at-home learning environment. One day each week they will have live face-to-face interactive lessons with their instructor and other students for approximately 30 minutes through Google Meet. The remaining two hours will be spent on independent work through Google Classroom. Program activities will be focused on building every student’s abilities in oral communication, reading, and writing.
