The National Institute for International Education (NIIED), an organization under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea, administers the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) program to foster outstanding international talent and strengthen educational exchange and cooperation between Korea and other countries.

Applications are now open for the 2027 Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) for Undergraduate Degrees. Interested applicants are encouraged to carefully review the attached Application Guidelines and submit their applications online through the Study in Korea system by September 30, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. (Korea Standard Time).

Bachelor’s Degree Program: 1 year of Korean language program+ 4–6 years of degree program

How to Apply

Online application through the Study in Korea website: www.studyinkorea.go.kr
After signing up on the website, proceed with the application process by filling out the required sections and uploading the necessary documents
If a university requires additional materials beyond those listed by NIIED, such as a portfolio, applicants are responsible for confirming the requirements directly with the university and submitting the additional materials accordingly.

Selection Process

Applicants selected through the first-round screening by the recommending institution (Embassy) will proceed to the second-round screening conducted by NIIED.

For the Embassy Track, candidates who pass the second round will undergo an additional third-round review by the universities, after which the final successful candidates will be determined.

Application Period: September 15, 2026 (Tue.), 11:00 – September 30, 2026 (Wed.), 18:00

Choice of University and Department

Applicants under the General category may apply to up to three universities from Type A and Type B universities. However, at least ONE must be a Type B university
Applicants may not apply to more than one department within the same university.
If applications are heavily concentrated at particular universities, an applicant may fail at all preferred universities during the third round even after passing the NIIED second round.
Applicants should choose their intended department and field carefully in consideration of their academic plan and major fit.
※ After final selection, transfer to a different field of study is NOT PERMITTED.

Apostille Requirements for Documents Issued in Canada

As of January 11, 2024, Canada is a party to the Apostille Convention. Accordingly, the Apostille process now applies to documents used between Canada and the Republic of Korea, replacing the previous consular authentication process. Applicants should keep the following requirements in mind when preparing their GKS application documents:

Documents issued by Canadian government authorities: Apostille required
Documents notarized by a Canadian notary public: Apostille required
High school academic records: Documents authenticated through the consular authentication process are also accepted
