1,000 Korean Language Textbooks Distributed, Event Ends One Day Early

The Korean Education Centre in Canada, led by Director Lee Ji-eun, distributed 1,000 Korean language textbooks free of charge at the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Toronto booth during the 2026 Toronto Korean Festival.

The initiative began with a simple inquiry from a grandfather who asked, “I’d like to teach Korean to my grandchild. Are there any Korean books they could read?” In response, the Korean Education Centre in Canada organized the textbook-sharing event as part of the “Give a New Book, Donate a Used Book” campaign, distributing Korean language textbooks donated to Korean language schools to families and learners in need of Korean-language learning materials. The Korean Canadian Literary Association also donated 100 Korean-English bilingual books in support of the initiative, adding to the meaningful sharing event.

The event attracted strong interest and participation from people of all ages, including those who wanted to teach Korean to their family members and those interested in the Korean language and culture. As a result, all 1,000 prepared textbooks were distributed ahead of schedule. Originally planned as a three-day event, the textbook-sharing event concluded one day early due to the early sellout.

The Korean Education Centre in Canada will continue to promote interest in the Korean language and culture and provide diverse opportunities for people to easily access and learn Korean.
